Barre de Capendeguy: an eco-monster with an explosive end
A demolition operation in Béziers of 492 apartments for 300,000 cubic metres of reinforced concrete demolished in 11 seconds. The echo monster, called "Barre de Capendeguy" was built in the seventies.
The demolition has required a considerable effort given the proximity of the structure to the historic center. The technicians worked for six months before being able to reach the final phase of demolition with explosives. Microcharges of 450 kilograms were used of TNT. At the end, 65,000 tons of debris were collected. These were then crushed, shredded, separated and placed on a conveyor belt and taken to a quarry. From here they will start again to be then reused as filling of the bottom layer of a road.
