Stazione di Bergamo

From railway station to urban hub for sustainable mobility

The new Bergamo Station is one of the main interventions of the Bergamo Porta Sud project, an extensive urban regeneration plan aimed at improving mobility, accessibility and the quality of public space.

Vitali S.p.A. won the tender promoted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, with a project financed through PNRR funds and resources from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Among the main works planned: Construction of two new Bridge Buildings to accommodate all the station’s functions. Extension of the railway yard. New platform accesses equipped with escalators, lifts and ramps. Covered overpasses, cycle paths and new green areas. Complete covering of the platforms and replacement of the existing subway with overhead crossings. Construction of an innovative landbridge between Via Fantoni and the school complex in Viale Europa. Ponti Val Seriana

Strategic junctions for ordinary traffic flow

The construction of two new bridges in the Valle Seriana was necessary following the landslide of 15 June 2001. This calamitous event has obstructed the S.P. n. 27 of the Seriana Valley at km. 22 + 400 for a stretch of about one hundred meters, causing considerable disruption to the road network of an entire valley that includes the municipalities of Bracca, Algua, Costa Serina, Serina, Oltre il Colle, Aviatico and Selvino.

The works performed can be summarily summarized as follows:
– new variant formation with the construction of n. 2 bridges in mixed structure iron and C.A. ;
– a section of the connection between the two bridges on the road;
– formation of rock rocks in regimation of the riverbed.

The total length of the variant is about 370.00 metres. The two bridges, identical in length and typology, are made of a mixed steel-concrete system with a static pattern of beams simply supported by light. 45.00. Atmospheric corrosion resistant steels have been used for obvious maintenance reasons, in particular COR-TEN grade steel which is of the self-oxidizing type.

Connecting territories with efficient infrastructure

The Pedemontana Lombarda motorway is a road system with an overall development of about 157 km, of which 67 km are motorways, 20 km are ring roads and 70 km are local roads.

This is a very complex intervention, both engineering and environmental, due to the considerable development of the route, the importance of the connected infrastructures and the type of territory crossed (the densely populated and industrialized area north of Milan, from Varese to Bergamo). The Pedemontano road system consists of the following road infrastructure: a motorway axis (67 km) from Cassano Magnago (Va) to Osio Sotto (Bg), which connects the existing A8 Milano-Varese, A9 Milano-Como and A4 Torino-Venezia motorways, divided into 5 sections.
